Why it works as a gift
Stamps are one of the oldest collecting hobbies, and India Post still issues commemorative stamps and first-day covers every year. It also runs a scheme called My Stamp, which prints a personalised sheet of stamps with a photo you provide — an unusual, genuinely personal gift.
Who it's good for
Who should skip it
- Someone with no interest in collecting — though a My Stamp sheet with their photo suits almost anyone
How to choose
India Post prints a sheet of stamps with your photo.
What to check
- For a collector, ask what they collect — a country, a theme or a period — before buying.
- For India Post's My Stamp, allow time and check the requirements at a head post office or philatelic bureau.
- Keep stamps in an album with protective mounts; handling and humidity damage them.
What each budget gets you
- ₹300–₹1,000
- A My Stamp sheet, a starter album or a set of commemoratives.
- ₹1,000–₹3,000
- Rarer issues, first-day covers, better albums.
- India Post's Philately Deposit Account sends new commemorative issues to a collector by post.
