Why it works as a gift
A dependable housewarming and Diwali gift, though a strong or unfamiliar scent is a real risk in a home you don't know well — an unscented or mild option is the safer default unless you know their preference.
Candles came up 187 times; a premium scented candle set was one of the study's suggestions for standard client gifts.
Counts are how often a category came up in 4,125 posts and 17,905 comments about corporate gifting on Reddit (May 2026) — a measure of discussion, not a rating. How we did it →
Who it's good for
Who should skip it
- Someone with asthma, or who's sensitive to fragrance
- A home where an open flame is a worry — small children, or pets that jump on shelves
- Someone who avoids: strong scents
How to choose
Layered scents, heavier glass.
Shaped like flowers, desserts or festive sweets such as modaks.
What to check
- Pick mild scents — vanilla, sandalwood, fresh linen — unless you know their taste; strong florals divide people.
- Compare burn time in hours, not jar size.
- Choose thick glass or tin containers; thin glass can crack as the candle burns down.
What each budget gets you
- ₹400–₹800
- A single jar candle from a good maker.
- ₹800–₹1,500
- Larger or multi-wick candles, gift sets.
- Trimming the wick to about 5 mm before each burn keeps the flame steady and the glass clean.
