A box of kesar peda leaves a Delhi kitchen with four days to live. That is the shelf life Khoya Mithai prints on its own product page. Send the same box to a parent in Chennai and a second clock starts: outside Delhi NCR, Khoya dispatches the next business day and promises delivery in 2 to 4 business days. The peda can arrive on its last good day.

That gap between shelf life and delivery time is what decides which Diwali sweets can travel. We read the mithai and dry fruit boxes of 12 sellers on their own sites on 4 October 2026. Of the nine sweet shops whose full online catalogues we read, only two give a shelf life in days for their mithai boxes, and six give none on any product.

Courier a box of sweets only when its shelf life is longer than the seller's dispatch time plus delivery time, and ask the seller when the policy page doesn't say.

How long mithai lasts, from the two shops that print it

Khoya Mithai, which delivers same day in Delhi NCR, lists a shelf life on 65 of its 110 products. Bombay Sweet Shop in Mumbai lists one on 38 of 185.

SweetKhoya MithaiBombay Sweet Shop (refrigerated)

Milk cake7 days5 days
Ghee and besan paak14 days (Mysore pak)14 days (kaapi paak)
Besan laddu28 days14 days
Kaju katli15 daysnot sold as katli

Peda keeps nearly four times longer at one shop than at the other. Recipe, packing and the fridge all change the answer.

Bombay Sweet Shop's own FAQ says its products are preservative-free and last "from a day to 6 months". Khoya's boxes of 10 start at ₹1,100, and its 30-piece kaju katli box costs ₹1,500.

At the slow end, that is 9 business days from order to door.

Which Diwali sweets should travel

A sweet that keeps 4 days should not go into a courier network that promises 3 to 7, and outside the seller's home city, every policy we read gives a range, not a date. Fresh peda, barfi, laddus and anything with cream or khoya belong with people the seller can reach the same day or the next. Sweets that keep two weeks or more, such as Khoya's kaju katli, Mysore pak and besan laddu, can survive a week in transit. We think dry fruits are the safest Diwali gift to send to another city, and a fresh mithai box is the better gift only when the shop delivers in the recipient's own city. Gwalia, Anand Sweets and Bikanervala ship across India but don't print shelf life on the product pages we read, so ask before you order.

Dry fruit boxes: what a kilo costs

Dry fruits keep far longer. Omay Foods prints a shelf life of 4 months on its Diwali dry fruit box. House of Rasda asks buyers to refrigerate its nuts after opening and finish them within 30 days.

Mithai and dry fruit boxes: common questions

How long does mithai last after delivery?

It depends on the sweet and the shop. Khoya Mithai lists 1 day for motichoor laddoo, 4 days for peda and barfi and 28 days for besan laddoo; Bombay Sweet Shop lists 2 to 15 days for its mithai, refrigerated.

Can I courier mithai to another city for Diwali?

Yes, if its shelf life is longer than dispatch plus delivery, which reaches 9 business days in the policies we read. Kaju katli, Mysore pak, besan laddu and dry fruits travel best.

How much does a dry fruit gift box cost per kilo?

Plain dry fruit boxes from Anand Sweets and Bikanervala cost ₹2,600 to ₹2,700 a kilo. Roasted, flavoured nuts in jars from Nutty Gritties cost ₹3,714 to ₹4,059.

Method: shelf life, prices and weights were read from each seller's own product data, and delivery terms from each seller's shipping policy or FAQ page, on 4 October 2026. Besides the shops named above, the nine catalogues include Almond House, Sri Krishna Sweets, Kanha Sweets and Ghasitaram. Per-kilo prices and the 9-day figure are our own arithmetic. Prices and policies change, so check before ordering. None of these sellers pays GiftScene.
